Meet the DWO Team

The staff at DWO are mothers, grandmothers, daughters and sisters who understand the critical issues facing women in Georgia. They are dedicated to helping any woman that comes through the door.  Our staff are from the local community and have strong ties to Akhaltsikhe and the other municipalities in the region. They are multilingual in Georgian, Russian and Armenian.

Marina Modebadze

Founder, Executive Director

Marina has spearheaded the growth of this vital organization since 1998. Her efforts have resulted in extensive outreach to and engagement with women and communities throughout the Samtskhe-Javakheti region. Under Marina’s guidance, DWO has organized impactful trainings including, “Healthy Women, Healthy Future,” “Prevention of Domestic Violence for Protection of Women’s Rights” and “Women’s Empowerment through Education and Rights Protection.” She has launched many successful programs, including the Women’s Gynecological and Preventive Clinic, the Women’s Empowerment Center and a shelter for women and children who are victims of domestic and gender-based violence.

Marina worked in various management roles in Akhaltsikhe government from 1984-1998. She graduated in 1985 from the Faculty of Chemical Technologies, Tbilisi Technical University, with a degree in Engineering-Chemistry.

Marekhi Kirtadze

Marekhi Kirtadze

Lawyer, Project Coordinator

Marekhi has been involved with DWO since its founding, first as a volunteer, then as a nurse in the Women’s Gynecological and Preventive Clinic. Before joining DWO, Marekhi was a nurse in the Maternity Hospital and at the Akhaltsikhe Hospital. She gained her nursing credentials at Akhaltsikhe Medical College, and then returned to university to study under the Juridical Faculty at Samtskhe-Javakheti State University where she earned her law degree. Marekhi was a lawyer at the Akhaltsikhe Women’s Consultation Center before returning to DWO to provide legal consultation, helping women understand their rights. She has participated in trainings in strategic and organizational management, leadership development, gender and domestic violence and project management. Marekhi speaks Russian fluently.

Natia Kirtadze, Financial Officer

Natia manages DWO’s finances, joining the staff in 2010 after tenures at several other NGOs including Atinati, Women’s Hope and PH International. Natia has been an activist for women’s empowerment and leadership opportunities for many years, participating in trainings focused on leadership development, project management, and effective organizing. Natia studied Humanities at Akhaltsikhe State University, specializing in Primary Education; she studied Finance and Tax Management at Agro Economical College and was part of the International Youth Exchange, Girls Power! (Poland in 2006 and in Sweden in 2007). She speaks Intermediate level English and Russian.
