Women’s Health

Compassionate Doctors

DWO’s team of doctors treat every woman who enters our clinic with respect, compassion, and sensitivity for her personal history and her body.

Treatment & Referrals

DWO seeks to offer comprehensive medical treatment where we can and make referrals for more extensive care when it’s necessary.

Public Health Education

DWO is passionate about educating our community & breaking the stigmas that keep women from seeking treatment for themselves and/or for their loved ones.

Women’s Medical Center

DWO operates the only community health clinic in Samtskhe-Javakheti. The absence of modern equipment, emergency care, and medical specialists in the region led DWO to open the clinic in 2002. It provides free and low-cost medical services such as mammograms, gynecological exams, and diagnostic screenings. Our medical staff (who are bilingual in Russian and Armenian) make referrals to larger hospitals if women need more extensive care.

The clinic underwent a renovation in 2017 and in 2018, DWO expanded its health clinic to include a laboratory where the general public are encouraged to come for free diagnostic screenings for STDs, HIV, and Hepatitis.

Health Services

DWO’s community health clinic offers the following medical services:

  • Mammograms
  • Gynecological exams
  • Ultrasounds
  • Blood tests
  • Hepatitis screenings
  • Cancer screenings
  • Cardio-vascular screenings
  • Thyroid screenings
  • Gastrological screenings
  • Sexual Transmitted Diseases (STD) and HIV screenings
  • Consultations on primary care and reproductive health

Health Education

In addition to operating our clinic, DWO  educates people in the region on matters of personal and public health including reproductive rights, access to contraception and safe abortions, and protection against STDs.

Many women in the region affected by STDs often defer treatment because of societal stigmas that surround sexual and reproductive health. DWO seeks to change these attitudes by offering public health education in the surrounding villages. DWO does public health awareness education on communicable diseases such as Hepatitis, STDs, HIV and Aids. We recruit and train young Georgian and Armenian women and men from local villages in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region to be peer health educators and help DWO conduct trainings in their local communities.

DWO has partnerships with the National Screening Center, Hepa Plus, NeoLab, and Evex to provide diagnostic screenings for hepatitis, cancer and other serious diseases to women and men of all ages. DWO is widely respected in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region, and its reputation for providing quality health services is what led these organizations to partner with us to carry out Georgia’s  Hepatitis C Elimination Program.
