In addition to operating our clinic, DWO educates people in the region on matters of personal and public health including reproductive rights, access to contraception and safe abortions, and protection against STDs.
Many women in the region affected by STDs often defer treatment because of societal stigmas that surround sexual and reproductive health. DWO seeks to change these attitudes by offering public health education in the surrounding villages. DWO does public health awareness education on communicable diseases such as Hepatitis, STDs, HIV and Aids. We recruit and train young Georgian and Armenian women and men from local villages in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region to be peer health educators and help DWO conduct trainings in their local communities.
DWO has partnerships with the National Screening Center, Hepa Plus, NeoLab, and Evex to provide diagnostic screenings for hepatitis, cancer and other serious diseases to women and men of all ages. DWO is widely respected in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region, and its reputation for providing quality health services is what led these organizations to partner with us to carry out Georgia’s Hepatitis C Elimination Program.
